Over many years of delivering capacity-building services directly to nonprofits and on behalf of funders, FMA ensures that our services are sensitive to the needs of both the client agencies and funding organizations. Our approach to working with nonprofit organizations in collaboration with outside funders includes the funders’ input and involvement at each stage of the process. At the core of every project we provide is our commitment to developing strong relationships with the funder and the funder’s constituents. With a location in Chicago, FMA continues this approach in the midwest region.

How midwest agencies are taking advantage of FMA services:

Clean and Clear Records
Better accounting systems created cost savings through improvements with budgeting, financial reporting, internal controls, fiscal staffing and accounting infrastructure

Smarter Decisions
Budget analysis strengthened overall effectiveness by overseeing a full program review to identify viable initiatives

Reduced Costs
Fiscal analysis lowered banking costs through the consolidation of treasury and investment management services

Audit Readiness
Training and workshops increased audit readiness, fiscal planning, internal controls and financial monitoring

Outsourcing Option
Back office support supplied direct accounting services, lowering costs related to daily accounting operations while building capacity

Building on Quality:Strengthening Financial Management

Specific to the Chicago area, FMA has been engaged by the Wallace Foundation to execute a 4-year, multi-phase strategic initiative focused on building the financial management capacity of a selected group of nonprofit organizations providing out-of-school (OST) time programming for youth in Chicago.

The initiative grows out of the findings of a 2008 study commissioned by Wallace and conducted by FMA, which found that many such organizations lack the capacity for proactive, strategic financial management that would enable them to better sustain and enhance their programmatic offerings.
